Ultragrid is a point to point video and audio based transmission system that has been created by the Czech Republic NREN, CESNET. It has been designed to work on commercial grade computers with the addition of video and audio specific PCIe cards. This could be using Linux, OSX, or Windows devices.

Following on from the 2015 Network Performing Arts Production (NPAP) Workshop at the Royal College of Music in London, dates have been released for the 2016 workshop. This exciting event, showcasing an array of technology used in the arts, will be hosted by the New World Symphony in Miami.

During 2013, Jisc distributed a call for proposals from UK sites who were looking to undertake some innovative projects using technolgies within the arts. Jisc selected 3 projects, and provided funding in the region of £10,000 to each project. The projects were as follows:

A new version of LOLA has just been released, which I’m sure will be of interest to you all. The most significant thing is that they have been working on reducing the bandwidth needed to run LOLA. The new version - LOLA v1.3.0 has the following new features: - new video rendering features:  - free stretch/zoom with fixed aspect ratio;  - remote video window can be duplicated and zoomed differently;  - new pixel interpolation techniques to render zoom in better quality; - some preconfigured basic layouts for video windows;

Over the past few years Janet has investigated many different types of streaming software available to the Arts sector, such as LOLA, Conference XP, and DVTS. These multiple pieces of software have been increasingly used and have drawn much interest from UK research and education institutions.
