Stealthwatch: Janet and Janet Aberdeen have worked together to ensure the continuation of the Stealthwatch monitoring tool, although it is not run by Janet itself and was procured by AbMAN outside the Janet Partner Agreement. When Janet took over direct operation it was clearly understood that part of the overall service would be the continued use of Stealthwatch. Topology: a topology map is available.

In June of this year Janet launched a procurement to replace the dark fibre infrastructure and managed service connections for the FaTMAN regional network. The existing Janet telecommunications framework was chosen as the best mechanism to achieve this. The incumbent supplier was selected and as such the physical connections will largely remain unchanged with minimum disruption to end customers. Janet are now working closely with the supplier and FaTMAN to ensure a smooth contract transfer. Further information will appear relating to the operations transfer as details are confirmed.

It has been necessary to re-procure the Janet Aberdeen network infrastructure as the contracts for it expire in July 2011. Janet staff worked closely with members of the local community with the aim of preserving the existing resilient dark fibre infrastructure where possible, ensuring the maximum levels of reliability for Janet Aberdeen institutions. A contract was awarded to THUS PLC in July and the new infrastructure will be ready for service by May 2011.

Janet now fully manages the operation of Janet Aberdeen. In August 2009 the board of AbMAN resolved that it wished to make the transition and Janet extends its thanks to AbMAN Ltd, to the University of Aberdeen, to Robert Gordon University and to the Janet Aberdeen community for the hard work and cooperation which enabled the operation to proceed so smoothly.
