Best Practice Working Group

This document has been kindly provided by Martin Van Eker at the University of Bristol Medical School as part of the NHS-HE Connectivity Best Practice Working Group. When Martin presented on the Weston-Super-Mare NHS initiative with eduroam at the May 2014 NHS-HE Forum he said he would be willing to provide a document that can be shared with others and tweaked and changed by the user to best fit their local situation.

This is Natalie's presentation that launches her report on Web 2.0 and Social Media in Education and Research that she has produced on behalf of the NHS-HE Connectivity Best Practice Working Group. It aims to highlight the benefits and utility of these tools as well the risks and makes recommendations on how they should be handled in the NHS, as connectivity to such tools is often currently blocked in the NHS.

NHS Trusts, or other NHS organisations are eligible to be University (or other Janet connected organisation) Business and Community Engagement (BCE) Partners under the Janet BCE policies.

eduroam has been widely extended in to the NHS and is a successful and popular support for students on clinical placement in the NHS and the academic staff supporting them, plus clinical researchers working with the NHS. See here for a list of UK hospitals where eduroam is available

Andrew has been an active contributor to the NHS-HE Connectivity Best Practice Working Group which has recently been relaunched. As well as an update on the Working Group, there is a assessment of the value of being a member to initiatives in Dundee.

Natalie has been tracking the use of  Web 2.0 and Social Media tools for clinical education, and barriers to this, for the NHS-HE Connectivity Best Practice Working Group. This is an update following the increasing publication of guidelines by professional groups and usage policies by NHS Trusts and Health Boards.
