Network Technology & Infrastructure community groups
This is the High Throughput special interest group on line group. Network performance problems may cause issues to scientists and network operators alike. Throughput problems can be caused by many factors - including infrastructure, hosts, applications. Researchers that encounter network problems sometimes can use this resource to facilitate troubleshooting, tuning and get general advice from the community.
This is an open group for background information and updates on the Jisc funded safe share project working with partners in the Farr Institute, Medical Bioinformatics initiative and Administrative Data Research Network (ADRN).

This group was originally set up to share opinions and ask questions regarding The Cloud's guest WiFi overlay solution for the Janet network.

Why is IPv6 important?
Put simply, it is no longer possible for the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) to allocate new network addresses under the old protocol running the Internet, IPv4. This does not mean the Internet itself is running out. It does however limit the applicability of all new installations. Many organisations have existing reserves of IPv4 space but the time will come when no new addresses can be assigned. Adoption of IPv6 needs to happen to allow the Internet...

IP Multicast is a bandwidth conserving technology that can reduce traffic by transporting single streams of information across the network backbone to regional and local distribution points where the data is replicated for simultaneous delivery to multiple users.
