Question: Required secure email solution

I want an email account that's detached from any Microsoft based services, Outlook, Hotmail etc. Perhaps as some others I hate the fact that they try make you fix an old account to a new email address or even give your personal mobile number just to create an account. Personally, that's a huge privacy issue.

I recently came across WHUK's Zimbra Email Hosting UK page and was pretty impressed but I would really like to know are there any secure, non-phishing email hosting service provider out there that aren't desperate to sell my personal information for advertisement?
